My first time in Australia

Posted by CJCM In category Personal Encounters

I have been posting quite a few entries about my ventures into blogging and article directory, but I have never forgotten to continue writing about the journey that brought me into IT.

So finally in 1984 I set my foot in Melbourne for the very first time. A group of Malaysian students already studying in Melbourne and a couple of Malaysian Student Department’s (MSD) officers were at the airport to meet us. We were taken to Melbourne University’s hostel just outside Melbourne where we spend the next few days while the seniors were busy assisting the MSD officers finalizing the accomodations for all of us.

Everyone was so excited with the new environment and all of us were really looking forward to start the academic term at our respective schools. We took the opportunity of the idle time we had at the hostel to explore the City of Melbourne, by tram of course.
To me, Melbourne is truely a nice city to live in. Known as the Garden City, Melbourne city’s landscapes are full of greens. The rivers are clean. The people were friendly and polite. To learn more about Melbourne, please click here.

I was finally informed that I would be going to McKinnon High School, now known as McKinnon Secondary College, and would be staying in an apartment somewhere in Carnegie. I was to share the two bedroom apartment with three other flat mates, Hamid, Hannan, and Razak, and all of us went to the same school.

My schooling at McKinnon was not really the best thing in my life, or something I could spend hours talking about it. If you asked me what was the most memorable moment, I’d probably say none. It was just a plain sailing..period. To tell the truth, I wasnt doing that well in my HSC, where I managed to score just ordinary pass, enough to get me a place in a college to study….guess what…Engineering.

I will dwell more about my college life in my future posting.

Any of you studied in Australia or Melbourne specifically? Share with us your experience in Australia. Or if you have travelled Downunder for whatever reason, please share your moments with us.

Have a good day mate…
